BMC Extends Global Project Management to Pakistan

Business Management Consultants establishes newest Project Management Centre of Excellence.

June 20, 2005

The Pakistan Government, led by Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudry Pervaiz Elahi invited Dr. Tom Johns, Managing Partner and CEO of BMC, to Lahore in May 2005, to develop their existing Project Management Unit. In his four days onsite, Dr. Johns led an executive briefing with 69 key government officials, including 40 departmental secretaries and the Chief Minister. He also conducted a three-day training workshop, BMC’s “The Art of Project Management™” for senior project directors of governmental projects in infrastructure, land revenue, health, finance, environment, and social sectors.

Dr. Johns’ visit was the result of the efforts of Project Management Unit Planning and Development Department (PMU P&D) and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), to deliver high quality project management training to key stakeholders of the government. Throughout these meetings, Dr. Johns presented the top government officials with strategies to gear the government as a project based organization – a management style that is being adopted by other BMC clients such as NASA and Airbus.

“For any country to develop, it is necessary to develop an open environment where people overseeing projects can give a true and honest assessment of progress”, said Dr. Johns. “The Pakistani executives are highly educated and experts in their respective fields. With Project management training, their key growth programmes can achieve improved communication, timely completion, risk management assessment and budget management, enhancing their effectiveness and impact on the development of the country.” “Capacity building and training are key elements to our successful implementation of a project management system in Punjab,” said Rizwan A Sheikh, Chairman PITB.
