Public Courses — Enhanced Skills Curriculum

PMP® Certification Test Preparation Course
Based on the PMBOK™ Guide, Third Edition
The tool, techniques and critical people skills for achieving success.

In today's leaner, more flexible organization, the boundaries between functions are becoming less sharp. You are almost certainly becoming more involved in working on cross-functional projects or leading global teams, even though the term 'project manager' may not be your title. To be truly effective in this capacity you need to acquire new skills and competence which extend beyond your normal role. This program offers you a prime opportunity to acquire the relevant practical skills and techniques, in a forum that is focused, stimulating and highly interactive.

Why PMP® Certification?

More and more organizations are turning to the Project Management Institute's (PMI®) Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK™ Guide, Third Edition) and Project Management Professional (PMP®) Certification as the source and evidence of competency. BMC is pleased to offer this three-day course specifically designed to help experienced, knowledgeable project managers and team leaders master the PMBOK™ Guide content and pass the PMP® certification exam. This course is also offered in four and five-day versions.

Surveys by PMI® establish that people certified as Project Management Professionals experience higher average earnings and hiring preference compared to uncertified colleagues worldwide. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has recognized the value of the PMBOK™ Guide, Third Edition by designated it as a national standard.

Prerequisites

Participants must be familiar with the basic elements of work breakdown structures, activity network diagrams and activity duration estimating, cost estimating, contracting, leadership, team development, quality management, risk management, earned value techniques, and organizational structures for projects.

The following BMC courses provide the necessary background:
To be eligible to take the PMP® certification exam, applicants must complete an examination application. The application requires 35 Professional Development Units (PDUs) of Project Management education and documentation of either:
  1. A bachelor's degree or equivalent university degree and a minimum of 4500 hours of project experience over the last 6 years, or
  2. If no degree, a minimum of 7500 hours of project management experience within the last 8 years.

The Benefits

Very few people can walk into the PMP® certification exam without preparation and pass it. Most examinees prepare rigorously for it. The exam covers a wide range of project management related topics and is updated regularly to cover the latest concepts. In addition, it uses a specific process-oriented terminology not addressed in general project management texts and courses. In order to pass the certification exam, participants must be current and fluent in a wide range of topics, unambiguously know the PMI terminology and context, and be able to apply that knowledge quickly and confidently.

This course condenses the learning time required to prepare for the PMP® certification exam. It summarizes the critical points from all of the PMI® recommended test preparation texts (approximately 4300 pages of documentation) plus recent issues of the PMI® Journal. The course fully addresses all the topic areas covered in the PMP® certification exam. Participants will become familiar with the PMI® framework for their existing knowledge, will acquire the missing knowledge, and will have multiple opportunities to test their knowledge through sample questions. In short, this course prepares the participants to pass the PMP® Certification exam by reminding them of what they know, educating them on what they don't know, and putting the whole into the appropriate context.

This course is taught by instructors who are PMP® certified and Registered Education Providers (REP®) of Project Management Institute. Participants are awarded 24 Professional Development Units for completion. Our faculty have proven track records of successful participant first-time pass-rates around the world.
