Public
Courses — Career Based Course Curriculum — Tier 3
The Fundamentals of
Project Management
The tool, techniques and critical people skills for achieving
success.
In today's leaner, more flexible organization, the boundaries between
functions are becoming less sharp. You are almost certainly, in consequence,
becoming more involved in working on cross-functional projects or leading
multi-disciplinary teams, even though the term 'project manager' figures
nowhere in your title. To be truly effective in this capacity you need
to acquire new skills and competence which extend beyond your functional
role. This program offers you a prime opportunity to acquire the relevant
practical skills and techniques, in a forum that is focused, stimulating
and highly interactive.

The Benefits
This course is in two parts and has been designed for full participation
over the scheduled five days. Attending both parts will give you
both the technical know-how and interpersonal skills to be able to
run high-quality projects within the budgetary and time constraints
you set. However, for those participants who are already very familiar
with one area of project management, it is possible to take just
one module of the course.
Part 1 will help
you to:
- Structure
projects in such a way as to set realistic goals and identify
milestones
en route.
- Use effective
tools for scheduling, which will enable you to run single or
parallel projects avoiding both panic and
slack
time.
- Use resources
more efficiently by planning accurately the needs at each stage
of the project.
- Implement
control systems which help you 'keep on top' of the project and
make faster, more effective decisions.
- Get the most
from the latest in project management software.
Part 2 will
help you to:
- Work more
effectively with your boss and your team.
- Motivate
the project team by empowering, where appropriate
and recognizing the individual talents
of each team member.
- Manage conflicts
of interest so that they do not jeopardize the success of the
project.
- Develop
effective communication skills which keep all team members
fully
informed and encourage
feedback
from all levels.
- Successfully
manage cross-functional and cross-cultural teams by appreciating
and
building on the differences
in individual,
national
and organizational culture.
